China mobilized tens of thousands of troops along with hundreds of pieces of equipment for a military parade in Beijing to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory over fascism.

"The process of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation is unstoppable, and the cause of peace and development for humanity will prevail," Chinese President Xi Jinping said this morning at Tiananmen Square in the capital Beijing, opening the ceremony commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory over fascism.

The parade area featured installation art with flowers, doves, and the symbol of the Great Wall with the inscription 1945–2025.

Among the foreign leaders attending China’s parade were President Luong Cuong, Russian President Vladimir Putin, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel, along with leaders from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Cambodia, Indonesia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Malaysia, and the Maldives.

"Humanity will once again face a choice between peace and war, dialogue or confrontation, and a win-win outcome or mutual harm," Xi said, calling on nations to "eliminate the root causes of war and prevent tragedies from recurring."

"Common security can only be ensured when countries around the world treat each other as equals, live in harmony, and support one another," the Chinese President added.

President Xi then reviewed the formations participating in the parade, before tens of thousands of soldiers and hundreds of military assets marched past the dais.

During the parade, China’s military unveiled many new weapons, such as an air-defense system specialized for countering unmanned aerial vehicles (drones), laser weapons, armed unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), advanced unmanned submarines, and several stealth aircraft.

China’s Ministry of National Defense stated that all weapons present at the parade were domestically produced and have entered active service.

Millions of Chinese people died in the conflict with the Japanese Empire in the 1930s–1940s, a conflict that later became part of World War II.

Japan signed the instrument of surrender to the Allied forces on September 2, 1945. General Douglas MacArthur, Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers in Japan, ordered all Imperial Japanese forces to lay down their arms, including the units stationed in China.

Chinese authorities later designated September 3 as Victory over Japanese Fascism Day, marking the end of World War II.
